MLA Awards

Give a shout out to libraries! MLA invites members and friends of the Maine library community to nominate individuals for these awards. Calls for nominations go out in the Spring. Nominations are reviewed by the Awards and Nominations Committee, with awards presented at the Annual Conference.


Current Awards

Outstanding Librarian of the Year Award

Established in 1993, the Outstanding Librarian of the Year Award recognizes professional achievements of Maine library workers. 

JIM CAMPBELL AWARD

Begun in 2024, The Jim Campbell Award recognizes Jim's dedication to intellectual freedom and passion for privacy. MLA proudly introduces the Jim Campbell Award.


Outstanding Library Advocate Award

Begun in 2022, this award  recognizes advocacy work done in Maine to further the mission of libraries; either a library worker of those outside of the library profession.

Past Awards

Youth Services Lupine Award 

Started 1989, the Lupine Award has honored a living Maine author or illustrator whose work focused on Maine, through its characters, plot, or setting.

Youth Services Katahdin Award

Begun in 1999, this lifetime achievement award recognizes an outstanding body of work of children’s literature in Maine.

Journalism Award

Between 2013 and 2021, the Library Journalism Award honored Maine media partners for the best print or broadcast story about libraries in the state within the past year.
