Keynotes

Jack Gantos, Author (Monday)
Jack Gantos JACK GANTOS is the author of fifty books for children which include the “ROTTEN RALPH” picture books, collections of “JACK HENRY” short stories, upper elementary and middle school “JOEY PIGZA” and “NORVELT” novels, to middle school and young adult books—LOVE CURSE OF THE RUMBAUGHS, DESIRE LINES, HOLE IN MY LIFE and THE TROUBLE IN ME. His work can lead readers from the cradle to the grave.
Mr. Gantos was a professor at Emerson College where he developed the Master’s Degree Program in Children’s Literature, Writing and Publishing. He now spends his time writing and is an active speaker at book and literacy conferences, schools and libraries. His works have received a Newbery Award, Scott O’Dell Award, Newbery Honor, Printz Honor, Sibert Honor, National Book Award Finalist nomination, and he is the 2010 recipient of the NCTE/ALAN AWARD for his contribution to the field of Young Adult and Children’s Literature. DEAD END IN NORVELT received both the 2012 John Newbery Award and the Scott O’Dell award for Historic Fiction. This was followed by the companion novel, FROM NORVELT TO NOWHERE. THE KEY THAT SWALLOWED JOEY PIGZA, the final book in the “Joey Pigza” series was nominated for the Kirkus Prize. His forthcoming book on writing for your writers will be released in the fall of 2017: READING RADAR: Using your Journal to Snoop out and Craft Great Stories.

Patrick "PC" Sweeney, Political Director, EveryLibrary (Tuesday)
Patrick PC SweeneyPatrick Sweeney is a tireless and innovative advocate for libraries. A 2007 graduate of the San Jose School of Library and Information Sciences, Mr. Sweeney is the a former Administrative Librarian of the Sunnyvale (CA) Public Library and was Executive Director of EveryLibrary California, a statewide initiative to support library Propositions. He is active in the California Library Association and across library social media as a co-founder of the Think Tank. His library blog is well respected, and he is a sought-after speaker and presenter. A recent project, the Story Sailboat, worked to provide library services and materials – by boat – in the San Francisco Bay area. He tweets at @pcsweeney.

If you don't have the financial means to attend, please apply for one of our conference grants! The Scholarship & Loan Committee award 4 members need-based grants of $250 to defray costs of conference attendance.  Learn more on the Scholarship & Loan page.

We have special rates at Sunday River's Grand Summit Hotel until we use up our room allotment, so plan your booking ahead.  For room information, please see our Lodging Info page.  Specifics will be available once registration opens.

It's peak leaf peeping season, so it should make for a beautiful retreat.  Our rates extend 3 days before or after the conference, so make a trip out of it!



Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made more than 10 days in advance can be refunded minus a $35 processing fee.  After September 21, 2017, refunds cannot be guaranteed, but will be considered on a case by case basis.  Please contact mainelibrary@gmail.com about cancellations.
